The young collared doves have been growing rapidly this week. We’ve been watching as the parent birds take it in turn to sit on the nest and feed their young. Today, for the first time the young birds have been left on their own in the nest – there’s not much room for them, never mind an adult bird as well. I expect they’ll be leaving the nest soon.
Here is a short video showing the two chicks being fed:
Wow, that nest is getting rather crowded! I can’t believe how much the little ones have grown. Well, I think there was only the one little bird the last we saw. Again, thanks for sharing Margaret.

Margaret – Those collared doves are getting so grown, aren’t they? Thanks for sharing a peek at their dinner hour :-). It’s good to see that all is well with them.

Thank You for sharing their progress with us. My birds next door were murdered by a black bird. It’s awful to come across, I was horrified, 3 little babies beheaded and I caught him at his fourth, at which point I chased him away.

That is difficult to cope with! We have jackdaws circling the garden most days now and I worry about them attacking the chicks, but the collared doves seem to be more than able to see them off.

It’s blue tits in our garden and the little blighters are growing so fast they are starting to eat me out of house and home. I would never have believed just how much bird food one family can get through in the course of just a week!

I know, as fast as we put out bird food it’s gone. We have great tits and chaffinches in great numbers, but not so many blue tits this year – and loads of sparrows, two woodpeckers occasionally drop by and as I said in my reply to Irene, we have jackdaws – cruel looking birds that I don’t want to encourage. They’re too heavy for the bird feeders, although they try, and hang about beneath them waiting for what they can get.

As much as I watch birds, and it’s a lot, I’ve never seen a dove’s nest. I have a pair of doves that visit my feeders but I never did find the nest. Thanks for sharing the video.
