This Saturday I’m continuing to post photos from our recent holiday in Scotland.
This is Loch Morlich is in the Glenmore Forest Park, 300 metres above sea level, between Aviemore and Cairngorm Mountain.
There is a level circular walk around the Loch, which has a Sailing Club. I took the two photos shown above on a wet and cloudy afternoon when there weren’t many people around. I hadn’t expected to find a beach so close to the mountains and about 30 miles from the sea!
Later in the week on a brighter day we went back to Loch Morlich, just a bit further round the shore. This part of the Loch is the home of Loch Morlich Watersports Centre and we arrived just as groups of young people were leaving, so we had the beach to ourselves: :
Loch Morlich is managed by Forestry Commission Scotland and is the first and only fresh water loch to ever have received the Rural Beach Award in Keep Scotland Beautiful’s (KSB) Seaside Award campaign.

I’ve been to Scotland three times – I didn’t know the sun shone there!!
I don’t imagine there are many bikini weather days to enjoy that beach either :-)

You’ve been unlucky, Brona – the sun does shine in Scotland and it can get too hot to sit out in!

It’s a lovely place, Margaret! I might have to put this on the to see list for when I get over there! I wonder if the water is ever warm enough for swimming or is that just a pipe dream!

Thanks for your comments, everyone. There are indeed many beautiful locations in Scotland (and in England) – I’ve plenty more to show.
Peggy Ann it certainly wasn’t warm enough to swim whilst we were there, but I see from the Loch Morlich Watersports website that people do swim and sun bathe there as well as sail, windsurf and canoe there.
