Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about mid-year reading€¦
Now that we’ve come to the middle of the year, what do you think of your 2009 reading so far? Read anything interesting that you’d like to share? Any outstanding favourites?
I’ve read some very good books this year so far. The list is in the tab labelled Books Read at the top of my blog. There have been just a few that were disappointing but a lot that I thought were excellent including these (in no particular order). Click on the titles to go to my reviews:
-
Fire in the Blood by Irene Nemirovsky
-
When Will There Be Good News? by Kate Atkinson
-
The Falls by Ian Rankin
-
Star Gazing by Linda Gillard
-
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson
-
The Cipher Garden by Martin Edwards

You are doing pretty well with your reading Margaret. I’ve read 56 so far, so we are not so far apart. I thought I’d put my top 10 up on Wednesday.

You’re having a great year! I discovered Fire in the Blood through your review, and plan to read We Have Always Lived in the Castle this fall.

This is a good list and I remember most of them. I ordered Star Gazing and put most of the others on my TBR list. You’ve had a good half year of reading. I’m going to post my list on Wednesday too.

This is a nice list of books. We Have Always Lived in the Castle was one of my favorites last year. I have a sneaking suspicion it will remain as one of my all-time faves.

I’ve wanted to read When Will There Be Good News, but for no real reason, everytime I pick it up at the store, I drop it in favor of something else.
*makes note to go and actually pick it up this time*

As I have not read any, I will check out all. I really trust your reading. Almost. Well not about Austen, though!

Just ordered The Falls–hoping to get hooked on a new mystery series–this one sounds perfect!
Best book this year? It would have to be the Jenny Uglow bio of Elizabeth Gaskell that I just got around to finishing. Simply wonderful.
Best fiction? Daphne, by Justine Picardie
Best reread? A tie between Wives and Daughters by E. Gaskell and Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen – both are forever young to me.

I read the Nemirovsky book last year and liked it very much, too, as well as Shirley Jackson’s book. I’m at about 45 books, so I’m just behind you. I might have to borrow this question and answer it as well.
