  3. You know, Margaret, I’d never thought of black and white covers as such. But that can really set the tone for a story. I’m glad to see Birnam Wood here; I thought that was excellent. And We Have Always Lived in the Castle is a truly suspenseful story; the black and white cover fits especially nicely there. Clever choices!

  14. Black-and-white covers are such an elegant pick for the freebie — there’s a real confidence to a monochrome design. We Have Always Lived in the Castle and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell are perfect examples of covers that set a mood before you read a word. I went with covers that honestly match their story for my list this week over at Lesbian Romance Reads (lesbianromancereads.com) — this really resonated with me!
