There are just a few days left in the Historical Fiction Reading Challenge 2025 hosted by Marg at The Intrepid Reader & Baker. These are the books I’ve read including those I haven’t reviewed:
- Signal Moon by Kate Quinn
- The Frozen People by Elly Griffiths
- Only Murders in the Abbey by Beth Cowan-Erskine
- Murder at Gull’s Nest by Jess Kidd
- Resistance by Owen Sheers
- My Beautiful Imperial by Rhiannon Lewis
- The House of Lost Whispers by Jenni Keer
- The Curious Case of the Village in the Moonlight by Steve Wiley
- Gabriel’s Moon by William Boyd
- The Elopement by Gill Hornby
- The Librarian by Salley Vickers
- The House of Seymour by Joanna Hickson
- Small Wars by Sadie Jones
- The Death of Shame by Ambrose Parry
- The Predicament by William Boyd
- The Seeker of Lost Paintings by Sarah Freethy
- The Ghost Cat by Alex Howard
- A Legacy of Secrets by Lulu Taylor
- Christine Falls by Benjamin Black
- Circe by Madeleine Miller
- West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge
- 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World by Elif Shafak
- Fire from Heaven by Mary Renault
I was aiming to reach the Medieval Level – 15 books, but exceeded that so next year I’ll be aiming to reach the Ancient History Level – 25 books – and to review all of them!
Well done, Margaret! This is an impressive group of books! I especially like that they’re from different periods of history. I think that gives a wider perspective. And I’ve gotten some good ideas for books to read, too!

Thank you – as you say reading from different periods does give a wider perspective. I love that.

I echo the “well done!” You’ve several on your list that (The Librarian; Gabriel’s Moon & The Seeker of Lost Paintings) I’ve been meaning to check out. I’ve read Fire From Heaven & Circe and enjoyed them both.

Well done on smashing the target! Did you enjoy 10 Years…? I loved it, but haven’t enjoyed any of her other books that I’ve tried.

Thank you! Yes I did enjoy 10 years … It’s the only book of hers that I’ve read, so I didn’t know what to expect and it totally gripped me. I loved it, so moving and one of the best books I’ve read this year. I just didn’t feel up to writing about it. I think I need to read it again.

That’s how I felt about it too – I felt all the characters had become my friends! Glad you enjoyed it. :D

Hello Margaret, well done on reading 25 books for the Historical Fiction Reading Challenge, that’s great! I also took part and read double the amount I was aiming. I see we both read The House of Seymour by Joanna Hickson. I hope we both enjoy taking part again this year. Blessings, Jessica 💌
