Before next Sunday, 19th October, 2025 create a post that lists twenty books of your choice that remain on your Classics Club list. On that day the Classics Club will post the winning number. The challenge is to read and review whatever book falls under that number on your Spin List by the 21st December, 2025.
Here’s my list:
- In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
- The Case of the Gilded Fly by Edmund Crispin
- Dombey and Son by Charles Dickens
- Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens
- The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle
- The Time of Angels by Iris Murdoch
- I’ll Never be Young Again by Daphne du Maurier
- The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth
- North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell
- The Go Between by L P Hartley
- The Great Fire by Shirley Hazzard
- Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
- Daisy Miller by Henry James
- Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee
- Friends and Heroes by Olivia Manning
- Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell
- Fire from Heaven by Mary Renault
- The Night Manager by John le Carre
- Maigret’s Doubts by Georges Simenon
- Loitering with Intent by Muriel Spark
Which one would you like to see win?
You really have some fine choices here, Margaret. I thought In Cold Blood was excellent and an interesting re-telling of a real-life crime. And The Day of the Jackal is, I think, very suspenseful. And I’ve always wanted to read The Go-Between. Whichever book you get, I hope you enjoy it.

They’re all books I want to read – and I can’t decide which one to read first, so I’m happy to let the spin pick one for me.

We’ve both got The Day of the Jackal on our lists, but at different numbers. Of course I’m hoping you get Dickens, but if you’re looking for something shorter, then I’ll keep my fingers crossed for The Lost World!

I would like a shorter book, but I’ll be happy if the spin lands on a Dickens book.

I’ve also got some long ones on my list (scheduled for Saturday), but I do tend to put them in the list in less likely spots – meaning, with numbers that have been picked recently.

I have Daisy Miller on my Classics list and spin list as well. It’s always fun to see other book lovers lists for planned reading.
