It’s time for another Classics Club Spin.
Before next Sunday, 21July 2024 create a post that lists twenty books of your choice that remain “to be read” on your Classics Club list. On that day the Classics Club will post a number from 1 through 20. The challenge is to read whatever book falls under that number on your Spin List by 22nd September, 2024. March, 2024.
Here’s my list:
- Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
- In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
- The Case of the Gilded Fly by Edmund Crispin
- The Stars Look Down by A J Cronin
- Dombey and Son by Charles Dickens
- Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens
- The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle
- The Birds and other short stories by Daphne du Maurier
- I’ll Never be Young Again by Daphne du Maurier
- North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell
- Brighton Rock by Graham Greene
- The Great Fire by Shirley Hazzard
- Strangers on a Train by Patricia Highsmith
- Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
- Daisy Miller by Henry James
- Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee
- How Green Was My Valley by Richard Llewellyn
- Friends and Heroes by Olivia Manning
- Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell
- Fire from Heaven by Mary Renault
I hope it’s one of the shorter books! Which one/s would you recommend?
You have such a lot of good ‘uns here, Margaret. Dickens, du Maurier, Huxley., Lee…. so many! I noticed you included In Cold Blood. I’ll be really interested to know what you think of that one if that’s the book you get. Well, whichever novel it is, I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks Margot. In Cold Blood is one of the books I’ve been wanting to read for a while now. I’d be happy to read it soon – well all of them actually.

So many great authors! Of ones I’ve read, I would recommend any on your list, but How Green Was My Valley has a special place in my heart.

You have so many good choices here I would be hard pressed to pick just one, but I’ll say In Cold Blood. I found it totally fascinating!

We share an Orwell this spin Maragaret – so fingers crossed we get it. It would help my 2024 reading project along :-)

I’ve got a few of Orwell’s books to read – as I see that you have too. I hope we get Down an Out in London and Paris.

I read Nicholas Nickleby from June to two days ago—and I delighted in the characters. I hope the spinner stops on that one for you this time.
