Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about 2009 favourites€¦
Coming towards the end of April, we’re a third of the way through the way through the year. What’s the favourite book you’ve read so far in 2009? What about your least favourite? (question courtesy of MizB)
I wrote about The Cipher Garden by Martin Edwards a couple of days ago – that’s one of the best books I’ve read this year but as I’ve also read other books that were excellent it’s difficult deciding which is one is the favourite. The other contenders are:
-
Fire in the Blood by Irene Nemirovsky – my review is here
-
The Falls by Ian Rankin- my review is here
-
Star Gazing by Linda Gillard – I’m still to write about that one!
It’s easier to decide about my least favourite; that has to be Death of a Gossip by M C Beaton – see my review here.
I haven’t read any of those books yet. I do have M.C. Beaton’s Agatha Raisin books in my TBR but haven’t gotten around to them yet.

Yvonne, this is the only book by M C Beaton that I’ve read. It’s the first in the Hamish Macbeth series and apparently the series gets better after this one – other people enjoy them more than I did this one. I’ve yet to try any more!

I have read some others in the Hamish Macbeth series nad seem to remember them as just being ok. But actually, this one you disliked interests me for one of the reasons you disliked it…I am very interested in fly fishing and would read it just for that…lol
I will have to go off in search of a cheap copy….

I read some of Nemirovsky’s novellas. Priceless! Fire in the Blood has been on my TBR for some time.
Your other choices sound interesting.

I find it interesting that this question is given the spotlight. After all, isn’t this the type of “musing” readers should constantly be thinking about in the back of their minds? It’s important to know what books you liked and what books you didn’t like. It seems to me that’s not something that needs to be done in retrospect, but subconsciously and always.

Thanks for your comments. I hope those of you who are looking forward to reading Nemirovsky’s books enjoy them as much as I did.
Caite, maybe your library has a copy – mine did!
Bibliblio, I think that is the thinking behind this question. As for me each month I look at the books I’ve read and decide which one I enjoyed the most and then at the end of the year I try to decide which one is my “Book of the Year” – usually very difficult. So it’s an ongoing process for me and for you I assume too.
