I read on Aviannschild’s blog how she modifies the rules for Teaser Tuesday and it took my fancy. Instead of choosing two sentences from the beginning of the page pick two or three ‘teaser’ sentences, more or less at random from the book, anywhere on the page. (The official rules are here.)
My teaser today is from page 140 of Irène Némirovksy’s Fire in the Blood:
What I could not foresee was the flame that would be locked inside me, whose cinders would continue to glow for years to come, to burn in my heart. How strange it is when something that we have desired so much actually happens.
I really enjoyed Fire in the Blood, and must read Suite Francaise by this author as well. I love the quote you chose.

What a lovely quote!
I’ve always played a little fast and loose with the rules. I mean, you want to pick sentences that are really going to interest readers and you don’t have much chance of doing that randomly. And sometimes you *need* that third little sentence, just to finish the thought.
My teaser is here.

A lot of emotion in only two sentences — great teaser!

Great teaser! LOL – every now and then, getting what you desire the most can be a let-down – wonder what happens next.

Thanks for your comments. I finished reading this book yesterday and will write about it soon. It has inspired me to get my copy of Suite Francaise off the bookshelves and read it.

Well that was lovely. I have her Suite Francaise lined up to be read shortly as well! I’m not sure where you are located but the Museum of Jewish Heritage in NYC has an exhibit about her running through 03/22:
