Looking out of the window this morning we saw that the bird feeders had been knocked of the tree and their contents spilled on the ground. Then a squirrel appeared, grabbed some nuts and cavorted round the garden burying them in the borders but mostly in the lawn.

I know they eat up a ton of our birdseed, but I just love those little squirrels! We have a very brave chipmunk also, who will run run under the dogs to get to spilled seed. I could watch the lot of them all day long and be very content.
Have a great weekend, Margaret!

I know lots of people think grey squirrels are vermin but I do like them and this one has a reddish head and tail.

I had to grease the pole of our bird feeder to stop the squirrels getting up to the nuts. They learnt very quickly that there was no point in trying to climb up any more, which was a shame. Watching them slide down was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

Ann, we have one feeder that’s enclosed in a round cage – that’s squirrel proof. I bet the greasy pole routine is hilarious!

Squirrels are very cute but can be a real pain! I like the photos.

Thanks Juxtabook. A squirrel is quite a rare visitor to our garden, so I enjoyed seeing him(her), but yes they can be a real nuisance!

I currently have holes all over my yard from the squirrels burying things. Unfortunately, the dog likes to dig them up and eat whatever they buried. There are going to be some hungry squirrels here this winter and a fat dog.
