Before next Sunday, 15 June 2025 create a post that lists twenty books of your choice that remain “to be read” on your Classics Club list. On that day the Classics Club will post a number from 1 through 20. The challenge is to read whatever book falls under that number on your Spin List by the 24 August 2025.
Here’s my list:
Here’s my list:
- Emma by Jane Austen (a re-read)
- In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
- The Case of the Gilded Fly by Edmund Crispin
- Dombey and Son by Charles Dickens
- Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens
- The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle
- Friends and Heroes by Olivia Manning
- The Birds and other short stories by Daphne du Maurier
- I’ll Never be Young Again by Daphne du Maurier
- North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell
- Brighton Rock by Graham Greene
- The Go Between by L P Hartley
- The Great Fire by Shirley Hazzard
- Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
- Daisy Miller by Henry James
- Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee
- Friends and Heroes by Olivia Manning
- Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell
- Fire from Heaven by Mary Renault
- Chess by Stefan Zweig
I like your choices, Margaret. I wonder what you’ll think of In Cold Blood, if that’s the one you get. To me, it was a fascinating use of fiction to tell a real-life story. I read Brave New World years ago, but haven’t since then. I think it may be time for a re-read…

I’ve been meaning those two books for years, so it would be good to get the push to read it from the Spin.

I’ve read The World of Yesterday by Stefan Zweig but don’t know Chess. Good luck for the Spin.

I’m glad you liked them – they’re rather long though.

The Go-Between – perfect summer reading! Or The Lost World which I re-read and thoroughly enjoyed all over again a few weeks ago. Hope you get something you enjoy!

I also have Daisy Miller on my list. Mine’s at #9, which hasn’t been picked for a while, but neither has 15, so we have about equal chance of getting it picked.
