Today is the day to finish reading the latest Classics Club Spin, which for me was How Green Was My Valley by Richard Llewellyn. I forgot about it until last week and so there wasn’t enough time for me to finish it by today. But I began reading it anyway. Sadly, I decided that it wasn’t a book for me. I just couldn’t get into it. Maybe I’ll try again some time.

Oh, I am sorry to hear that you didn’t get on with this book, Margaret. It happens, though, and I think that life’s far too short to finish reading books that just don’t tick the boxes.

I agree, Margot.

Too bad – it sounds as if it should be good! But I echo Margot – no point struggling on with a book that isn’t working for you!

We watched the tv adaptation of this earlier in the year. Sian Phillips was superb but the story was very creaky and I suspect the book is the same. It;s decades since I read it and tastes have changed hugely just like the south wales valleys where it is set.
