I’m pleased to see that Jo at The Book Jotter is running this meme again this year to summarise the first six months of reading, sorting the books into six categories – you can choose from the ones Jo suggests or come up with your own. Or if you want to do a shorter version, then just post something about six books you have read in the first six months of 2024.
I think it’s a good way to look back over the last six months’ reading. As I’ve been reading less than usual this year (30 books in the first six months) I’ve had to use some of the books in more than one category. And as I’ve been reviewing less I haven’t written posts about all the books. Where they exist the links take you to my posts on the books, and some are just short posts, not reviews.

I really enjoyed The Silence Between Breaths last week and love the Karen Pirie series I’ll be interested to see what you thought about The Cracked Mirror. It definitely wasn’t what I was expecting

I’m glad you enjoyed The Silence Between Breaths. I’m wondering what to write about The Cracked Mirror – it wasn’t what I was expecting either!

I really like this meme, Margaret. It is, as you say, a good way to look back over one’s reading for the first half of the year. You have some fantastic choices here, too. I was glad to see Trouble in Nuala on your list. Steel is a talented writer, and I don’t think her series gets the attention it deserves.

I only found Trouble in Nuala recently and thought it looked interesting. Have you read many of Steel’s books?

I’ve only read a few, Margaret, but I’ve enjoyed them and plan to read more.

I haven’t done this but The Marriage Portrait on my TBR and soon to be indulged, I just finished The Hand That First Held Mine also by Maggie O’Farrell and it was totally gripping, quite different to Hamnet, I’m looking forward to reading more of her backlist.
