Recently I’ve got behind writing reviews of books I’ve recently finished reading, so this Weekly Geeks topic is just right for me.
1. In your blog, list any books you’ve read but haven’t reviewed yet. If you’re all caught up on reviews, maybe you could try this with whatever book(s) you hope to finish this week.
2. Ask your readers to ask you questions about any of the books they want. In your comments, not in their blogs.
3. Later, take whichever questions you like from your comments and use them in a post about each book. Link to each blogger next to that blogger’s question(s).
4. Visit other Weekly Geeks and ask them some questions!
These are the books I’ve not reviewed yet. Please ask me any questions about them.
- Knots and Crosses by Ian Rankin
- A Judgement in Stone by Ruth Rendell
- The Birthday Present by Barbara Vine (I wrote a bit about this after I’d started to read it. I wasn’t too enamoured at that stage, but it did improve and I finished it. I need to update my thoughts somewhat.)
- Jane Austen: a Life by Claire Tomalin
Is “Knots and Crosses” the first Rebus novel you’ve read? How important is it to you to read such a series in order? Does it matter?
The Rebus novels, to me, are as much about Rankin’s development of his character as they are puzzles/crimes to be solved.

Hi!
Knots and Crosses sounds really good. Is this the first in a series? A Judgment in Stone really sounds interesting. Being a modern mystery does it keep your attention through the whole book? Have a great day!

Well, I know from comments you’ve left that you enjoyed the Austen bio, but I’d love to hear more about it. Were there things you learned in the book that surprised you?

Are you a big Austen fan? Did reading her biography enhance her fiction for you, or take something away? Is Tomalin a relatively objective biographer?
Is Knots and Crosses more of a mystery or a thriller?

i love rankin. i just finished exit music and its a great book.
i am unsure whether to get knots & crosses, it is only a short book & i like to really get into the story & characters. perhaps I can pick it up second hand somewhere for next to nothing.
