Today’s teaser is from Wuthering Heights which I’m reading for the umpteenth time, although it’s been years since I last read it and I’m enjoying it immensely. This quotation is from the beginning of the book when Heathcliff first came to Wuthering Heights (page 34):
He seemed a sullen, patient child; hardened perhaps, to ill treatment: he would stand Hindley’s blows without winking or shedding a tear, and my pinches moved him only to draw in a breath and open his eyes, as if he had hurt himself by accident and nobody was to blame. This endurance made old Earnshaw furious, when he discovered his son persecuting the poor fatherless child as he called him. He took to Heathcliff strangely, believing all he said (for that matter, he said precious little, and generally the truth) and petting him up far above Cathy, who was too mischievous and wayward for a favourite.
And so the tragedy is set in motion.

I really need to re-read this book. I first read it when I was too young to really get it, and later, as a young adult, loved its moodiness. Now I wonder what I would see in it!

I’ve only read it once – decades ago. Maybe someday, again.
Thanks for letting me revisit for a bit : )

I haven’t read this for many a year either. Do you get something different out of it each time you have read it?
Here is my teaser

I re-read this one from time to time, too. I’ve never really gotten into the other Brontes, but I absolutely love “Wuthering Heights.” Great teasers!

Excellent teaser. It took me a couple reads to really appreciate Wuthering Heights but now I love it.

This is a pretty good teaser for such a well-known book. You managed to find the perfect quote: informative, displays the style of the novel, and a lot more intriguing than many other parts of the book.
