It’s time for another Classics Club Spin.
I have a new list, so plenty to choose from for this spin list. Before next Sunday, 20th March create a post that lists twenty books of your choice that remain “to be read” on your Classics Club list.On that day the Classics Club will post a number from 1 through 20. The challenge is to read whatever book falls under that number on your Spin List by 30th April, 2022.
Here’s my list:
- Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
- Another Part of the Wood by Beryl Bainbridge
- The Mousetrap and Selected Plays by Agatha Christie
- Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
- The Case of the Gilded Fly by Edmund Crispin
- The Stars Look Down by A J Cronin
- Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe
- Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens
- The Black Tulip by Alexandre Dumas
- The Birds and other short stories by Daphne du Maurier
- A Room with a View by E M Forster
- Brighton Rock by Graham Greene
- Strangers on a Train by Patricia Highsmith
- The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo
- Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee
- A Town Like Alice by Neville Shute
- On the Beach by Nevil Shute
- Tortilla Flat by John Steinbeck
- The Invisible Man by H G Wells
- Between the Acts by Virginia Woolf
I ‘d really like The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo to be picked as that is a book I’ll definitely be reading for FictionFan’s Review-Along to be reviewed on 20th April – that would be my ideal choice. Failing that, I’d like a shorter book! Maybe The Birds and other short stories by Daphne du Maurier. Any of one them would be OK, although I probably wouldn’t be able to finish it in time …
So, I’ll be looking out for number 14!
You have such great choices, Margaret! Honestly, I’d be hard-put to suggest just one that I hope you get. But I agree that using the same book you have for FictionFan’s read-along would work well! I see you have a couple of Nevil Shute’s books; I haven’t looked at any of his work for a long time, and I appreciate the reminder; I ought to get back to them.

What a fabulous choice! Sense and Sensibility or Brighton Rock or Notre Dame all brilliant!

You have a good mix of genres in your list. I’ve read quite a few of them but have shied away from reading Hunchback because it’s so long!
Heart of Darkness is short though not a quick read.

I really enjoyed The Hunchback of Notre Dame, so I hope you get that one, especially as it would be perfect timing for your review-along. I also loved The Black Tulip and The Birds and Other Stories. Good luck!

Ha, usually I’d be hoping you get Nicholas Nickleby but I can’t imagine reading it and The Hunchback by the end of April! So I’ll be nice and hope you get The Invisible Man instead – delightfully short and good fun… 😀

I’ve read five of these, all good, and you have a lot of other interesting titles. I think I’d probably be hoping for Strangers on a Train. Hope you get the book you’d like.

I read ‘On the Beach’ recently. This is about the aftermath of a nuclear war, where people try and carry on with their normal lives. A sombre book, but definitely a classic. I’m glad I read it.

Thanks for the reminder. I failed to read even the first page last time! Hopefully I can do better this time.

Forgot–I think Tortilla Flat was the last book I completed for a spin. I’ll be interested in your thoughts if that is the one you get.
