The Lake District – Honister Pass

Whilst we were staying in the Lake District a few weeks ago we drove through the Honister Pass, one of the highest passes in Cumbria. It connects the Buttermere Valley with the eastern end of Borrowdale Valley. There is a slate mine but we didn’t have time to take a tour – just enough time for a quick drink and a look around.

The little stone garden is most unusual:

  11. I’m trying to remember if we went over that pass on our one visit to The Lake District about 20 years ago. I don’t think so as I don’t remember that cafe. Lovely photos though.

    The only time we spent some quality time up in the Lake District, it rained for the entire week, except for the last day, so my memories are of very misty, rain sodden scenery.

    We really must make a return trip one of these days, as we totally underestimate and underappreciate the beauty of our own country. It’s just such a shame that we can’t guarantee the great British weather!

    I love the cafe and unusual slate garden shots and of course the patriotic poem, which stirs the heart on this Sunday morning!
