Classics Club Spin: Result

1056472It is No. 10 on my list, which is Washington Square by Henry James. I’m pleased with this – it’s not too long so I should be able to fit it in. Currently I’m reading three books, which I hope to finish by the end of November and then I’ll start Washington Square.

The only other book I’ve read by Henry James is The Turn of the Screw, which I enjoyed and thought was a dark and melodramatic tale, about good and evil. I think Washington Square will be a bit lighter.

  1. What a great pick! I’ve wanted to read that book for awhile, though I haven’t officially added it to any reading list. Yes, it does sound quite a bit lighter and brighter than Turn of the Screw.

    Enjoy 🙂

  2. I’m reading Under a Wide and Starry Sky at the moment which is the fictionalized story of Robert Louis Stevenson and his wife. I love this book, and it has made me curious about Henry James since, of all Stevenson’s friends, only James really understood him and realized the influence his wife had on him. He also realized she had writing talent too – something that Stevenson just couldn’t face. When I finish this, I’ll be reading some Henry James I’m sure.

    1. How interesting, Barbara! I think I’ll see if I can find a copy of Under a Wide and Starry Sky – such a good title! I know very little about Stevenson, although I’ve read several of his books, so I’m curious to know more.
