After my last post about reading from my own shelves I’m almost ashamed to write about the library books I’ve got out on loan at the moment.

But you see they’re from the mobile library and if we don’t use it the service will close down and that would not be a good thing!  The library van comes once a fortnight and is an invaluable resource. And it’s so convenient as it stops just a short walk from our house.

The books from top to bottom are:

  • In the Woods by Tana French – a book I’ve read about and have been hoping to find in the library. It’s crime fiction, a psychological thriller, a murder mystery about a little girl’s death in an Irish wood. It has very mixed reviews on Amazon UK so I’m not getting my hopes too high.
  • Below Zero by C J Box. I keep seeing Box’s name on other book blogs and have wondered about reading one of his books. This is the 9th in his Joe Pickett series – Pickett is a Wyoming game warden. Below Zero is another book about a young girl who had been killed years earlier – or had she?
  • Perfect by Rachel Joyce. This book looks intriguing – in 1972 two seconds were added to time and the question that bothers James Lowe is ‘how can time change?’ I still haven’t read Joyce’s first book, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry (I have a copy which will be a TBR next year), but as they are two stand-alone books that isn’t a problem.
  • The Day of the Lie by William Brodrick. I’ve read two of his earlier Father Anselm books, so I’m hoping this one is just as good. It’s yet another murder mystery – this time with a monk as the detective, described on the book cover as ‘an unforgettable tale of love, death and redemption.’

  1. Do you find there’s a good selection on the mobile library? I’m glad you support them, because libraries are under threat, and we should use them – I tend to pop into mine each time I’m passing, and I invariable find something I want, but I end up with lots of books out, all due back on different days! But we don’t get date stamps in our books – we have to self scan, and ask the machine for a receipt, which I lose, and everything ends up overdue! My Snapshot is at http://goo.gl/Zlqhui

    1. There is a good selection, Christine – they change the books every so often and recently they’ve added quite a lot of new books too. And, of course, you can reserve books to be delivered to you on the mobile as well – no charge for reservations. They do date stamp the books and the loan period is longer than if you use the branch library – all very good.

  2. Don’t feel guilty, they’re library books. At least you didn’t go out and buy some more. 🙂 Look like some good reads!

  7. I agree with Arti- you shouldn’t feel guilty about library books. I just have to resist bringing home too much, I can never get it all read. How fun to have a mobile library. I don’t think I’ve ever visited one of those. I always like pictures of book stacks.

  9. Glad you support and use your mobile library. Library services in general are terribly underfunded in the U.S. and their funds are the first to be reduced when the budget is strained. I hope you’ll like C. J. Box. I only discovered him a year or so ago and I have loved each of his books I’ve read.

  10. I’ve been toying with reading the Joe Pickett mysteries–C.J. Box is from my part of the world, and the character sounds like he could be interesting. I’ll have to see what you think 🙂
