Have you seen Jack-In-The-Green?
With his long tail hanging down.
He sits quietly under every tree —
in the folds of his velvet gown.
He drinks from the empty acorn cup
the dew that dawn sweetly bestows.
And taps his cane upon the ground —
signals the snowdrops it’s time to grow.
Jack-in-the-Green is a Jethro Tull song from the 1977 Songs from the Wood, a folk rock album – one of my favourites. Ian Anderson, who plays the flute, is the founder and singer of the band and also a songwriter.
Jethro Tull: Complete Lyrics is a must for Tull fans.

Margaret – What a creative idea for J! I like some of Jethro Tull’s music, but this was one I hadn’t heard before. Thanks

Their album Heavy Horses was a staple on our turntable when we were first married in 1980 along with Chic and Blondie – we always did have eclectic tastes!
