A Book Meme

Musing Mondays from Should Be Reading is here on Tuesday this week!

This week’s musing is’¦ a book meme!
What was the last book you’¦

‘¢ borrowed from the library?
‘¢ bought?
‘¢ cried over?
  • I don’t often cry over books, I can’t remember the last one.
‘¢ disliked and couldn’t finish?
  • Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell – I think I’ve given up on this one after trying to read it three times. What am I missing?
‘¢ read & loved?
‘¢ got for review? (or: got in the mail?)
‘¢ gave to someone else?
  • I gave a pile of books to the book stall at my local hospital – can’t remember the titles.
‘¢ stayed up too late reading?
  • Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates – I fell asleep reading this book for many nights.

  1. How interesting that you don’t cry over books! I think that’s great, since I regularly spill gallons of tears. However, I suspect the book acts as a cathartic agent for the need to cry, rather than the book and the crying being more closely related!

  2. So Blonde is good? I’ve only read a couple of Joyce Carol Oates’ novels and I enjoyed them both, even though they were disturbing and at times downright unpleasant reads. I keep half-wanting to pick her up again and then putting it off. But I’m interested in Blonde, as I like all fictionalised accounts of historical figures. Don’t know why but they appeal!

  3. Irene, glad I’m not the only one!
Rhapsody it may have something to do with the fact that recently I’ve been reading mainly crime fiction and I didn’t pu myself in any of the characters shoes!
Litlove, Blonde is good but also very long and intense. I had to space out my reading sessions. I like fictionalised accounts of real people too. I’ll write more about my thoughts about this book in separate post. I often find Oates’s novels disturbing and this was no exception – Challenging reading.

  4. I don´t cry over crime fiction either, but certain films …
I could probably answer most of these, but as part of my trimming my TBR vow, I have stayed clear of the library for several months so I have no idea what I borrowed there.
