Booking Through Thursday

It’s Booking through Thursday time again.

Monogamy

One book at a time? Or more than one? If more, are they different types/genres? Or similar?
(We’™re talking recreational reading, here’”books for work or school don’™t really count since they’™re not optional.)

Definitely more than one book at a time. I like to have a few going at the same time, although recently I did try reading just one book – Harry Potter. I thought when I finished it I would carry on reading only one book, but there are so many books I want to read that I just had to start others as well. I also like to mix up the genres and read some non-fiction as well as fiction. At the moment the non-fiction is biography.

Currently I’m reading four – see on the left. Lewis Carroll is breakfast time reading, then The House at Riverton whilst I have coffee (and a bit longer too) and at night, as it’s really a good book – I could drop the others for a while maybe to finish this. The other two I fit in now and then – the Michael Palin Diaires goes nicely in short doses. I’ve only just started Remainder – in preparation for finishing The House at Riverton.

It helps to have more than one on the go at once, because sometimes I hit a time when nothing fits the bill and even though I’ve lots of books waiting to be read, I can’t find just the right one.

  1. Since I began reading more than one book at once, I’ve decided I love it, and I’m not going back!

  2. I did enjoy reading just one book, but when I tried it on the next book, I found that I needed to start another. I also like to read different books at different times of the day.

  3. You know I have always been a one at time person. However, I like the idea that if you have several going, it would help when you finish that really good one and can’t quite settle to something else. Hmmm….I’ll have to think about this.

  4. I only ever read one novel at a time, but at the same time I may be reading poetry & non-fiction

  5. I think I have 5 going right now. But 1 is a YA book, 2 fiction and 2 non-fiction. I don’t think I’d do well crossing genres!

  6. I normally have one fiction book and one book of letters or journals on the go. This is because I prefer not to read fiction in bed. The letters/journals are my bedtime reading, so much more peaceful to go to sleep with.

  7. Thanks for all your comments. It appears that most of us like to have more than one book on the go.

  8. Wow, that’s amazing, I don’t think I could juggle 4 books at the same time. I’m pretty much a 1 book at a time kinda gal.-Mariehttp://smariek.blogspot.com

  9. You know, moods does play a great part in whether I read one book at a time or more than one books at a time. Either way, I enjoy it much better if I read it one at a time.Good luck with the 4 books that you’re currently reading. And have a nice Thursday!

  10. I usually have several on the go at once, but will concentrate on maybe three (and then shift them out as I go). I just started The House at Riverton. I am not too far into the story, but it looks like it is going to be good. Despite it’s hefty size, I have a feeling it is going to read fast. I love books like this.
